Sidoarjo, September 10, 2024 – Aston Sidoarjo Hotel, in collaboration with the Sidoarjo Regional Government, has launched an initiative to support local SMEs. This commitment was marked by an event themed “Local Traditions to Global Innovations.” The event involved eight local entrepreneurs from the Asmaminda and Dekranasda communities.
The event aims to introduce Sidoarjo’s local SME products to the public while supporting tourism synergies, particularly in the hospitality and SME sectors. Among the featured products were processed milkfish and prawn crackers, culinary specialties of Sidoarjo. “We are proud to be the pioneering hotel to support Sidoarjo’s local SMEs. These products will be displayed and available for purchase by all hotel guests and visitors, offering a unique take-home option after visiting Sidoarjo,” said David Eko Susanto, General Manager of Aston Sidoarjo.
The featured Asmaminda products include Bithafish, known for its Kupang Chips; Ami Kitchen’s Macco Chizo; Toko TGan’s salted eggs; Qonjamadu’s Elephant Ear Crackers; and Maharani Crispy’s specialty Red Lip Smoked Milkfish. The event also partnered with Namiroh Batik, showcasing Sidoarjo’s hand-painted batik fabric; Lintang Batik, known for its batik apparel; and House of Qamira, offering ready-to-wear batik combined with woven textiles. Asmaminda, the Sidoarjo Food & Beverage Association, has secured a geographic indication for Red Lip Smoked Milkfish. “We obtained the Geographical Indication Rights for Sidoarjo’s Smoked Milkfish from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Jakarta in June 2024,” said Sulaichan, chairman of Asmaminda.
This event aims to provide a platform for SMEs to innovate and develop their products to be more competitive in the global market. By partnering with Aston Sidoarjo, this synergy is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy while promoting Sidoarjo’s rich traditions and culture.
