ASTON Sidoarjo had a unique and memorable way of commemorating the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. Under the auspices of the Archipelago, this hotel flew a 17-meter-wide Red and White Flag from the 8th floor of the hotel building on August 17, 2022. The flag was hoisted at 10:00 WIB, coinciding with the reading of the proclamation of Indonesian Independence by Indonesia's first President, Ir. Soekarno. 

The size of the Red and White Flag was determined by the population at the time of independence. "The size of the flag we flew represented the number of proclamations of independence. It was flown from the 8th floor, the number representing the month of August, and each color of the flag we chose was 4.5 meters, which symbolizes the year of independence," said Wahyu Setyo Budiwan, General Manager of ASTON Sidoarjo.

It also drew the attention of many hotel guests and members of the general public. "I appreciate this nationalist action; the Red and White Flag is quite large and visible from afar," said Rudi, one of the guests who witnessed the raising of the Red and White Flag.

The Red and White Flag was raised for 8 minutes before being lowered and stored by the hotel.
