There are many unique ways to celebrate National Batik Day on October 2nd each year. Batik does not have to be related to just textiles; the art of batik can also be applied using various media, one of which is coffee. This was done by a 4-star hotel in the South Jakarta area, ASTON Priority Simatupang, at the "Segelas Batik" event held on October 2 to 4, 2023, in the hotel lobby area and open to the public free of charge.

Through this event, hotel management, in collaboration with PT Langgeng Makmur Kencana (LMK), provided an education about the coffee world and how to make latte art with batik motifs. Latte Art is the art of drawing or making specific patterns on hot coffee. Especially to celebrate National Batik Day, the latte art was made to resemble batik motifs. Guests were also allowed to practice it directly. One hundred paper cups were provided daily, along with the ingredients for guests wanting to try. 

The process uses espresso coffee or black coffee with a layer of milk foam or foam on top. Then, batik motifs or patterns are drawn on the foam layer until you get a color gradation and the appropriate batik motif. Visitors could learn about the making process from 13:30 to 16:00 WIB.

ASTON Priority Simatupang also organized a batik painting activity using coffee as the color on canvas media for children on Sunday, 1st October. Before starting, participants were taught about the art of batik painting and an introduction to batik motifs to better familiarize and remind them about this national cultural heritage.

In addition to "Segelas Batik", ASTON Priority Simatupang featured a literacy corner that contained the history of Batik in Indonesia. This literacy corner displayed a variety of popular batik motifs from various regions of Indonesia, and guests used it as a backdrop for taking beautiful Instagram pictures. ASTON Priority Simatupang also offered prizes from hotel management for visitors who uploaded their photos wearing batik outfits in the ASTON Priority Simatupang area through social media in the "Senin Berkain" program organized by ASTON Priority Simatupang.

To celebrate National Batik Day this year, we participated in a unique way, namely batik on coffee, and presented it in the Segelas Batik event. Due to the expansive nature of the art of batik, not only related to textiles, but other media can also be applied to introduce various batik motifs that are rich in philosophy," adds Andi Gevika Rizki, General Manager of ASTON Priority Simatupang Hotel & Conference Center.
