ASTON Jayapura- In an effort to improve the quality of education for the Papuan generation, the Papua Provincial government, together with Wahana Visi Indonesia through the USAID Collaboration program, officially launched the Papua Province Basic Literacy Cultivation Roadmap for 2025-2029.

 

The launch took place at the ASTON Jayapura Hotel & Convention Center, Tuesday (September 24, 2024)

 

  

 

 

The Assistant II for General Administration of the Papua Provincial Secretariat, Mr. Y. Derek Hegemur. SH., MH. Emphasized that this roadmap for basic literacy cultivation is a concrete step in facing literacy challenges. “We are committed to enhancing teacher capacity and developing learning materials that are relevant to the local context, as well as prioritizing the use of mother tongue in education, ” Said.

 

“In this roadmap, several key strategies are designed to address literacy challenges, including strengthening the capacity of teachers and literacy facilitators through continuous training, developing contextual literacy materials, as well as a community-based approach that prioritizes the mother tongues as the initial medium of learning. “ We believe that education relevant to the local cultural context of papua will be more effective and have a positive long-term impact,” added Derek The Papua Provincial Government appreciates all partmer and stakeholders who have contributed to the preparation of this roadmap.”

Meanwhile, Dr.H.Abdul Halim Muharram, M.Pd. Widya Prada Utama of the Directorate of Elementary Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, stated that his party has a crucial role in ensuring literacy is implemented continuously and integrated with various government programs and other institutions, making it  a priority that is not dependent on changes in administration. “This literacy movement must involve all stakeholders, providing opportunities for individuals and institutions to contribute, as well as creating a literacy culture that is  enjoyable and easy to apply within families, schools, and communities.”

 

“We fully support this initiative. Literacy is an essential foundation for building an intelligent and competitive generation. We Are confident that with the right support, Papua can overcome these challenges, “ Abdul added.
