Solo
Also known as Surakarta, the city has a rich history and was home to one of the two oldest dynasties in Central Java, the other one being the nearby Yogyakarta. The 18th-century Keraton Surakarta is one of the most famous tourist attractions and still the residence of the Royal Family that carries out royal traditions to the present day. Solo is well known for its Batik and visitors can admire the making of it at the Batik Danar Hadi. Some of Indonesia’s most important corporations have their regional offices and factories in Solo and nearby.
