Gresik

This industrial city is part of the Greater Surabaya metropolitan area and includes the offshore Bawean Island, situated some 125 km to the north in the Java Sea, while Madura Island is just opposite of Gresik to the east. In the 14th century, Gresik was one of the largest trading areas in Java and this important time in history is probably best preserved in its Old Town, which is also the location of the tomb of Malik Ibrahim and a favorite place for everyone who visits Gresik.
